As a department of Canadian Sport Centre Pacific, the NCI-BC is able to expand accessibility of coach services through a network of PacificSport Centres and across the province. The amalgamation with CSC Pacific provides ongoing access to exceptional performance services specialists who have helped Canadian athletes achieve podium performances around the world.
The NCI-BC supports coaches in their pursuit of National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) advanced education, and provides an Advanced Coaching Diploma. The NCI Diploma is a pinnacle coaching program within the NCCP and advances coaches’ current knowledge, skills and attitudes. The program is open to all sports and coaches who have designated prerequisites.
The NCCP curriculum for the diploma program has shifted to a new and improved format where coaches must demonstrate competency in four themes:
Coaching Leadership Coaching Effectiveness Performance Planning Training and Competition Readiness
Diploma coaches will work through a problem solving process that requires analysis, planning, and implementation of their skills and knowledge in day to day coaching. This transition to the new NCI curriculum will begin in September of 2010 while old NCCP level 4 tasks will be phased out by December of 2010. Each coach will be required to build an electronic portfolio that provides evidence of their coaching competencies. Coaches can complete the Diploma on a full-time basis (10 months) in Victoria or on a part-time basis (2 years) throughout the province in specified locations.

If you have questions about this transition period please contact the Director of the NCI-BC, David Hill |

“I had been going on instinct and gut feelings, and the NCI gave me a base and the reassurance that what I was doing was correct. It gave me the academics of coaching, opened my eyes, and got me searching the Internet and reading books.”

This past winter, CSC Pacific teamed up with the NCI-BC to introduce an ongoing educational series of Coaches Roundtables. These professional development sessions were intended for coaches of all levels to connect with a group of like minded, high performance mentors to discuss, learn and exchange multiple perspectives on important coaching issues and topics. The first two events in Victoria provided a thorough discussion of relevant coaching issues, strategies, tactics, and leadership approaches employed across a variety of sports.
The first topic of the roundtable series was Leadership and Training Approaches facilitated by Mike Spracklen, Head Coach of the Canadian National Heavyweight Men’s Rowing Team. The second topic of the series was Club Development, Long-Term Athlete Development and IST Integration led by Randy Bennett, Head Coach of the Victoria Academy of Swimming and 2009 Swimming Canada Coach of the Year.
If you are interested in attending future sessions, please contact Stephanie Mahovlic for more details.
